Satisfactory configuration for comfortable use of Windows machines
First, let's look at the specifications of the machine we borrowed this time. The CPU is the 11th generation Intel Core i5-1155G7 (2.5-4.5GHz) processor. TDP is 28W with 4 cores / 4 threads. In the UP3 series for mobile, the built-in GPU will be Iris Xe Graphics.
Memory is 16GB, storage is 512GB of 4th generation high speed SSD (PCIe Gen4 connection). The display is full HD and there is no touch. It supports fingerprint sensor and face recognition, and there is no WAN. Of course, the OS is Windows 11, and when you purchase a Windows machine, you probably want to customize the configuration.
In the case of the VAIO store, there is a discount on the current price with this configuration, and it will be 217,600 yen. If you do so, you may be able to get it a little cheaper by using various campaigns, such as using a coupon worth 25,000 yen.
The design is refined while following the previous model
The conventional model also used UD carbon for the top plate, but by utilizing the technology that realized the three-dimensional molding of UD carbon with VAIO Z, it has been changed to a structure that is bent on both sides. Along with that, the structure of the contents has been reviewed by changing the ornament and making it more rigid.
Personally, I felt that it was troublesome when I wanted to read digital camera photos because the SD card reader was gone, but when I think about it now, I am using a UHS-II standard card, so after all it is USB. I realized that I was using a reader and came to the conclusion that it was necessary and sufficient.
However, I wanted the USB-C terminal to be distributed to the left and right like the VAIO Z. Since it also connects to the AC adapter, it is more convenient to have it on both sides when considering the cable routing.
Since the keyboard inherits the VAIO Z unit, it is quieter and the keystroke feeling is the same as the VAIO Z, so I am personally satisfied. The touchpad is also wider than the previous model, and it will be easier to make subtle controls even with a 4K display.
Like the VAIO Z, the power button has a fingerprint sensor, so it's convenient to be able to authenticate and sign in as it is when Windows starts. It also supports face recognition, so basically it doesn't matter if you can sign in with face recognition, but if you want to work with a mask on the go, you need to use fingerprint recognition. It is best to choose both in this era because it requires time and effort to remove.
The size and weight haven't changed much. Therefore, the impression of holding the main body should be the same as the conventional model. By adopting three-dimensional molded carbon, etc., both weight reduction and high rigidity are achieved, but the weight reduction is offset by the weight increase due to the change of materials to improve the performance.
Specifically, the heat pump is thicker like the VAIO Z, and the fan is also larger. After all, the cooling performance is improved so that it can be driven for a long time at a higher operating frequency to improve the performance.
What is the performance of the Core i5 model?
I immediately measured some benchmark tests. The first is "Cinebench R23", which measures the standard CPU performance. For measurement, set the power mode of Windows to "optimal performance" with power supplied. "CPU and fan" in the "VAIO settings" app is set to "Performance priority".
The result is 5358pts for multi-core and 1452pts for single-core, and it is quite difficult for multi-core to easily exceed 5000pts.
Next, execute "PCMark 10" to comprehensively check the operation of the application.
The result is 5190, which also exceeds the average notebook PC performance. If you take a closer look, Essential (comprehensive application launch, web content operation, video chat operation) is over 10,000 at 10,465, and Productivity (comprehensive document creation operation and spreadsheet operation) is 6662, Digital. Content Creation (comprehensive photo, video, and rendering behavior) is working hard with 5443. With this, it seems that you can do a little photo and video editing.
We also measured "Dragon Quest X Benchmark Software Ver.1.51" as a performance check for light 3D games. The graphics are "highest quality" and the resolution is "1920 x 1080" with full screen settings.
The result was a score of 12536, which was evaluated as "very comfortable." With this, you can enjoy light 3D games without any problems.
So I also tried a little heavy "FINAL FANTASY XIV: Akatsuki's Finale Benchmark". As expected, the graphic is not an external GPU, so it is measured with the settings of "high quality (notebook PC)" and "standard quality (notebook PC)". The screen size is "1920 x 1080" full screen.
The result is a high quality of 5611 with a rating of "normal" and a standard quality of 7602 with a "slightly comfortable" rating. With standard quality, the average frame rate is about 53 fps, so games like FPS are difficult, but this kind of RPG or strategy game seems to be enjoyable enough.
Finally, I also measured the storage performance with "CrystalDiskMark 8.0.4". The measurement mode is NVMe.
The result is a sequential read of about 6780MB / sec and a sequential write of about 4389MB / sec, which is not the fastest but fast class of NVMe SSDs with PCIe 4.0 connectivity.
AI noise canceling function that VAIO Z did not have
The VAIO SX series was designed by generously introducing the technology of VAIO Z, but there are some functions that were not installed in VAIO Z. That is the AI noise canceling function. A "Sound" item has been added to the "VAIO Settings" app, allowing you to reduce noise and set directivity.
Reducing noise not only suppresses air conditioning and crowd noise, but also almost eliminates the sound of ambulances, for example. I live along an arterial road, and the sounds of ambulances, police cars, heavy trucks, etc. are quite noisy, and the environment where cats also squeak, so it is perfect for web conferencing by telework these days. This function also works for the other party's voice, making it very easy to hear.
As for the directivity of the microphone, you can set whether to pick up the sound of the entire room or only within the angle reflected by the camera, so it is convenient to concentrate on your own voice without picking up the surrounding voice.
I also want this function for VAIO Z, but it is difficult to port it because it is a function that is not realized only by software but also around the microphone. By all means, VAIO Z | It is recommended because it is installed if it is a winning color special specification.
In this way, although it is difficult to understand the change from the conventional model at first glance, if you look closely, the interface has been reconstructed and the detailed design has been changed, the contents incorporate a part of VAIO Z, and new functions are installed at all. It is a new model.
If you want higher performance, you should choose the Core i7-1195G7 (2.9-5GHz) processor, but considering the cost performance based on the bench results, this Core i5 model is not enough. Breaking away from the legacy interface and immediately introducing the technology of the flagship model VAIO Z, the new VAIO SX series is a machine that I would like to recommend privately for work.
