Samsung Electronics of South Korea announced the new high-end processor (SoC) for mobile "Exynos 2200" overseas.
Equipped with a GPU jointly developed with AMD in the United States, which has been rumored for some time. In addition, the GPU supports hardware ray tracing processing, making it a product with many highlights. Samsung has been developing the "Exynos series" as an in-house designed mobile processor. And for products such as smartphones and tablets, depending on the model and market, Qualcomm's processor "Snapdragon series" and Exynos are switched and adopted. The biggest feature of Exynos 2200 is that it is equipped with the GPU "Xclipse GPU" jointly developed with AMD as mentioned above. It uses AMD's latest architecture, RDNA 2, to achieve high performance.
In addition, it supports ray tracing that expresses light reflection like in the real world and "variable rate shading (VRS)" that improves GPU processing efficiency and frame rate, so-called PC and game machine level advanced and high speed. Another feature is that it can provide graphic processing. As the basic specifications of the CPU section, one flagship core "Cortex-X2", three big core "Cortex-A710", and four little core "Cortex-A510" are installed. It also incorporates the image processing processor "Isocell HP1" that also supports an image sensor with 200 million pixels. In addition, the state-of-the-art 4nm EUV process is used in the manufacturing process, which indicates the manufacturing generation of semiconductors.
Mass production of this Exynos 2200 has already started, and it is expected to be adopted in Samsung's next flagship smartphone "Galaxy S22 series". The Galaxy S series is mainly equipped with the Exynos series and Snapdragon separately depending on the region, and in Japan it was a model equipped with Snapdragon.
Until now, the performance difference between Exynos and Snapdragon was small, so it was not a big topic which processor was installed, but Exynos 2200 has unique functions in the GPU part, including ray tracing support. The functional difference is remarkable compared to the conventional one.
When it comes to that, I'm curious about which processor will be installed when it is installed in the Galaxy S22 series, and in the model for Japan. Also, when a smartphone equipped with Exynos 2200 is introduced in Japan, I am wondering if it will be prepared as a different branding or a different model.
In that respect, it can be called a product that attracts a lot of attention from Japanese Galaxy fans. Source: Samsung
