I have been an iPhone SE user for a long time. The reason is simple. Thinking Steve Jobs's creation was his Apple product, and having supported (?) Apple for over 25 years, I decided to get an Apple product that was commercialized without Jobs' ideas. I felt a slight resistance. But it's finally time to quit SE. Because it was physically broken ...
The delicate and famous home button no longer recognizes fingerprints or push movements (although I usually use Assistive Touch), and the screen pops up. The capacity wasn't enough, and I couldn't take any pictures, and SE seemed to complain to me, "I'm sorry, I've done my best, but I'm gone ...". So I decided to buy a new iPhone that cries and cries.
Well, there were twists and turns before I chose it, but I will omit it because it will be long. In short, I bought the XS second hand at Sofmap in Machida, and it evolved extremely with modern fossil SE → high-end XS users.
So, when I picked it up, I was quite surprised, so I tried to summarize many of them. SE users, if you switch to XR, XS or X, you will experience this kind of surprise, both good and bad.
1. The screen is big!
It is obvious if you compare it. The screen of XS is huge. SE is a "phone that can send text", but XS is like a "mini tablet computer that can also make a phone call". It was natural for SE users to hold it with one hand, but this is not the case with XS. The size that is a major premise to hold with both hands.
To be honest, it's hard to hold when asked if it's easy to hold. However, if you give up holding it with one hand and use both hands, typing on the English keyboard is easy to do at an impressive level.
On the other hand, Japanese flicks are hard to do, rather than not feeling any benefit. My hands are about to get tenosynovitis. Inevitably, there were more texts with overseas friends, and when interacting with Japanese friends, I started to use an iPad with a keyboard.
I'm sure it was made assuming that it will be held with both hands from about iPhone 8. If I had gradually scaled up to 7, 8 and X, it might not have been a burden so far, but my arm hurts a lot.
2. The lock screen camera does not start!
I bought the XS at Sofmap in Machida. I heard that there was no problem with the operation, but I didn't know that pressing the screen would activate the camera and flashlight, so I was impatient with "It's broken!". Well, I learned about the 3rd day when I googled and pressed the camera icon on the home screen. This may be quite convenient.
3. There is no earphone jack!
You might be asked, "Are you surprised now?", But I was really surprised. No, I don't have an earphone jack.
I'm using BOSE's wired noise-can earphones, but I have to purchase an additional conversion adapter to continue using them. 7 and 8 come with this conversion adapter, but XR and XS don't. It's too disappointing. It is very disappointing. I tried using the included Lightening terminal earphones, but the contact is bad and my ears are crackling. It hurts physically. What's wrong with this? I was afraid that I could feel the crackling of electricity in my ears instead of static electricity, so I stopped using it once. Apple, this is a squid.
4. Difficult to press the side button!
There may be a problem with the case I'm using, but the side buttons are hard to press anyway. When I install the app, I have to double-click the side button, but after all, it's thin and big, so it's unstable to hold, and just clicking it puts a strange load on my arm.
Nowadays, it seems that the rounded form is common, but I think that the straight line like SE is definitely easier to press the button. Why do I have to say "snap" to my arm every time I press a button? Apple, this is also squid.
5. The capacity is huge!
SE used 16GB, but XS has the lowest line of 64GB. The sense of security is completely different. I was worried about the small capacity of SE so that I couldn't even update the OS, but now I can take pictures without worrying about the capacity, and I can install various apps (though I can't put in much).
So, for example, if you go to the zoo with your kids ...
You can take various pictures without worrying about the capacity.
Until now, you had to take a photo → back up to Google Photos → delete the data to secure space, but now you don't have to worry about that. That's why
You can also choose from a series of shots of Sai's best hip shots. (Apart from whether this is the best)
6. The camera is beautiful!
I didn't want to spend more than 100,000 yen on the iPhone, so I was planning to buy an XR, but I found a used XS that was not so different from the new price of the XR on Sofmap in Machida. Mr. Kogure, who has a good reputation in home appliance reviews, said, "I'm wondering which one to buy, but advice please" to Gizwriters who are familiar with Apple products. Mr. Kogure said that there is no doubt, so I went to the Sofmap Machida store that day and bought an XS that has a reputation for having an outstandingly beautiful object portfolio.
As a result, I'm satisfied. It really helps when you really want to bring a minimum amount of luggage, especially when you are dressed like a formal bag for formal wear. Until now, I was worried if I didn't have a Sony RX100-4, but now that I have an XS, it's okay if something happens! I can think of it. "It's okay" is amazing because it's okay to take pictures that can be used at work. I think that XR is enough for shooting people, but I think XS is better for people who shoot objects such as food, auctions, reviews, and so on.
For the time being, this is the end of the surprise. Well, it's a big deal, so let's touch on the new features.
Face ID is more convenient than I expected
The reason why it's convenient is that you don't have to type. As I said earlier, the large screen of the XS does not put a lot of strain on your arm when typing. So, I'm grateful that it unlocks my face just by "Kiri!" (I don't have to).
Animoji is sober and fun, but the charm is momentary
From the time the Animoji feature was released, I thought it was "not necessary at all". But other than that, it was fun. Only about the first 5 minutes.
Since I rarely used emoji and deco characters from long ago, I wouldn't use Animoji with high probability. So, as expected, it's a feature you don't need, but it's a little fun. However, if Animoji had a 500 yen option function, I would definitely have it removed.
Do you want to go back when the iPhone SE2 comes out?
If the quality of the camera is the same as the XS but only the size is different, it may be SE2. Japanese flick input is so difficult. If English keyboard input is the main, I think XS is good. Also, the fit that fits in the hands of SE is the best. I still think that "SE is the goal of smartphones" because of its thickness and size. I knew others and reaffirmed the wonderfulness of SE. (I broke up once and went out with other people, but it's probably the same pattern that I realized that he was the best).
I'm happy with the XS camera, and I'm so happy that I've even reinstalled the deleted Instagram and posted photos. However, every time I have an unstable XS that is big and thin enough to slip off my hand, I miss the sense of security that SE "fits in your hand".
XS is expensive. I was out of my eyes from the beginning, saying, "It's too expensive!" However, if you are comfortable with second-hand smartphones, you may be waiting for a good encounter by checking the second-hand market.
My XS had a slight scratch on the screen, so it was 10% off the market price and it was only 90,000 yen. I think this is expensive enough, but I'm satisfied with the purchase, and I think I've got something exciting for the first time in a while. If you want to take a casual shot, but the price is too high and you are thinking of using it as an XR, you may want to consider second-hand goods.
