Adding Dark Theme
First and foremost, the addition of "Dark Theme"! Various genuine apps already have a dark mode on the Android OS, but from now on, you can dye the entire system dark (top image). This is not only easy on the eyes, but it also reduces battery consumption for smartphones with organic EL displays.
Native support for folding smartphones
From Android Q, the UI (user interface) of folding smartphones is supported at the OS level. You don't have to design your own interface from scratch like you did with Samsung's Galaxy Fold.
5G support
Support for 5G communication has also been added. 2019 is the year that public 5G just started, and Android Q support is a given!
"Focus Mode" to cut off the temptation
"Focus Mode" is now available, which disables apps that start up unintentionally until you turn them on. This is in line with last year's Android Pie launch of "Digital Wellbeing," which aims to curb overuse of smartphones, further pushing smartphones away from users.
Enhanced privacy
Our commitment to privacy is also emphasized. For example, for location information sharing, you can select "Always allow / Allow only while using the app / Deny". Prevents tracking by creepy apps. In addition, a function to restrict the use of apps for children by parents has been added. Also, security updates can be applied without restarting the terminal. Always up-to-date and secure.
"Live Caption" for offline subtitles
"Live Caption", an offline subtitle display function, will be added. This is a function that performs voice recognition locally on the smartphone and adds subtitles to the video even when the internet is not connected. For example, subtitles can be displayed when watching videos that have been downloaded in advance.
“Smart Reply” even for third parties
The “Smart Reply” function that was previously released for Gmail, etc. will be supported at the OS level. Smart Reply is a function that suggests a short, "quick" reply to someone's message. With Android Q, not only Gmail, but also other messaging apps will be able to use Smart Reply, which allows you to reply with one tap.
Smarter "Suggested Actions"
Also, you'll occasionally see an app icon mixed in with smart replies. It's called "Suggested Actions," and it suggests apps you'd like to use based on the context of the message. For example, if you send me an address, the Google Maps app will suggest it.
"Android Q" Officially Released in Fall
Android Q will be officially named and released this fall. The Beta version is supported by familiar manufacturers that can be purchased in Japan, such as Google Pixel, Sony, ASUS, Huawei, and LG. I'm looking forward to it now!
