Supports login using fingerprint / face recognition using various iOS / Android version apps including Android version "Yahoo! JAPAN" app, and web browsers such as Safari and Google Chrome.
It is common to log in to web services and applications using an ID and password. However, as the number of web services and apps used by users increases, it is difficult to strictly manage the IDs and passwords of all services. In addition, cybercrime such as phishing scams and password list type attacks is increasing, and the need for authentication methods that do not use IDs and passwords is increasing from the viewpoint of both convenience and security.
Yahoo has been introducing password-free authentication methods to improve user convenience and security. From 2017, we started to provide a login method that does not use a password using SMS. In 2018, biometric authentication for login via Android web browser was supported, in 2019, biometric authentication for some iOS apps was supported, and in 2020, biometric authentication was supported for login via iOS web browser.
As a result of these efforts, more than half of active users now use password-free authentication methods (SMS, biometrics). The services and apps that support (or plan to support) biometric login are as follows.

To use biometric authentication, in the case of an app, set from "Other"> "Settings" or "My Page" in the menu at the bottom of each app. It is necessary to update to the corresponding version of the app in advance. In the case of a browser, access the Yahoo setting page and enable the biometric authentication function for each applicable smartphone browser (Safari setting page for iOS / Google Chrome setting page for Android). For those who have a password that has been used in the past, it is also recommended to set "password invalidation" together with the biometric authentication setting to improve security.
The biometrics provided by Yahoo are based on the "FIDO2" standard established by the "FIDO Alliance", an industry group that advocates the standardization of next-generation authentication in the world. It is said that Yahoo! JAPAN was the first in the world to introduce an authentication method based on the FIDO2 standard to the iOS Web browser "Safari" to commercial services.
